Port Lucaya, Lucaya Beach or Taino Beach planned backwards from all-aboard — a private car out, a timed pickup back, no waiting for a van to fill.
Every port catalogue should end with its plainest page, and this is ours. Freeport Harbour — the Lucayan Harbour cruise facility, two or three ships at a time — is a working industrial port on Grand Bahama's western shore, and it offers the arriving passenger no illusions: no beach within walking distance, no old town at the gate, and downtown's once-famous International Bazaar now largely closed. The terminal itself is modest and easy — flat walkways, information booth, a few shops and bars — and everything worth leaving the ship for lies elsewhere. After Nassau, which lands you on Bay Street, Freeport is the other kind of honest: nothing is pretended here.
Elsewhere, happily, is close and known. Port Lucaya Marketplace — the island's real centre of gravity, with its marina, straw stalls and restaurants — sits some sixteen kilometres east, about twenty minutes by road, and Lucaya Beach spreads five minutes' walk beyond it. Taino Beach, wider and quieter, is twenty to twenty-five minutes from the pier. There is no regular shuttle to any of this and no public transport at the harbour: the gap between gangway and island is exactly the width of a car.
The cars at the pier run on the island's own mechanism, worth knowing before you walk out: taxis and tour vans line up inside the complex, fares are quoted per person and agreed before you board — and the vans habitually wait until every seat is filled before moving. It works, but it is shared, unhurried, and priced by the head. A pre-booked car inverts each term: private, immediate, one fixed price for the whole car, the driver already holding your name while the vans are still filling behind you.
A last word for the island's new era: Carnival's Celebration Key, opened in 2025, draws its ships to a private shore far to the east — a resort built on sand. Freeport Harbour remains the other thing, the real island's door, with a town, a marketplace and beaches that belong to somebody's ordinary Tuesday. For fly-cruise days, Grand Bahama International is barely fifteen minutes from the pier, and the thin flight schedule that our FPO page describes makes the tracked, timed car more than a comfort. One price, one car — and with that, the last port on these pages is handled like the first: honestly.
At Freeport Harbour's Lucayan Harbour facility, a working industrial port on the island's west, handling two to three ships at once. The terminal is simple and flat, with shops and an information booth.
Honestly, no. There is no beach within walking distance and little outside the gates. Everything worth the stop — Port Lucaya, the beaches — is a short drive away.
Port Lucaya Marketplace is about 16 km east — roughly 20 minutes — with Lucaya Beach a five-minute walk beyond it. Taino Beach is 20–25 minutes from the pier.
Taxis and tour vans wait inside the port complex; fares are quoted per person, agreed before boarding, and vans typically leave only once full. A pre-booked car is private and leaves when you do, at one price for the whole car.
No — there is no regular shuttle to Port Lucaya and no public transport at the harbour. Plan on a car, booked or found at the pier.
We track your vessel and the driver is told which berth your ship was assigned, adjusting the pickup automatically at no extra charge.
Yes — Grand Bahama International is about 15 minutes from the pier. Flights from FPO are few enough that missing one costs a day, so we run the leg tracked at both ends, ship and plane.

Pier to Grand Bahama International in about 15 minutes, berth confirmed to the driver — on an island where the flight schedule is thin, the tracked car matters.
Freeport Harbour asks for the plainest honesty on these pages: the ship ties up in a working industrial port, with no beach in walking distance and nothing much outside the gates. That is not a complaint — it is the plan. The island's life sits twenty minutes east at Port Lucaya and its beaches, there is no shuttle and no public transport, and the pier vans fill seat by seat before they move. A booked car with your berth tracked turns Grand Bahama's quiet port into a proper shore day.
