Gangway to Guadalest, Elche or the beaches with your sailing tracked — far point first, the all-aboard margin kept.
Alicante's cruise story is written in auditions. MSC has started and ended cruises here since 2023; in 2026 Costa and Fred. Olsen run trial homeport calls of their own, and if the trials convince, the port authority says Alicante could become their official base as early as 2027 — reports already put MSC's next-year programme at twenty-seven calls. The numbers underneath are moving the same way: the authority forecasts a record 114 calls and some three hundred thousand passengers for 2026, up from a quarter-million the year before — "historic visitor numbers," in its president's words — while new docks go in at Pier 14 for larger ships and Global Ports Holding works the partnership. For travellers, homeport auditions mean one practical thing: more journeys that BEGIN here, and embarkation mornings we plan backwards from the boarding window, margin included, luggage door to gangway.
The setting does the postcard work itself. The berths lie beneath the hill of Santa Bárbara castle — the fortress watches every arrival — and the Explanada, Alicante's famous palm-lined mosaic promenade, is a short shuttle or seafront stroll from the gangway, with the old quarter and the central market just behind it. A call spent entirely on foot is a good call here; the car earns its keep on the days with more ambition.
Those days have range. Elche and its UNESCO-listed palm grove — Europe's largest palmeral — are twenty-five to thirty minutes south; Benidorm's improbable skyline is forty-five minutes north; and the far point is Guadalest, the eagle's-nest village above its turquoise reservoir, about an hour inland — far point first, the all-aboard margin kept, one fixed price for the whole car. Boats to Tabarca island leave from the same harbour for the laziest alternative of all.
And the pairing is already live: Alicante's airport sits about twelve kilometres down the coast — fifteen to twenty minutes — and our Alicante Airport page carries the flying side, with flight and ship tracked together on fly-cruise mornings. A port rehearsing for bigger billing, met properly in the meantime.
Beneath Santa Bárbara's castle hill, with the Explanada promenade a short shuttle or seafront stroll away. We confirm your berth from the booking.
