There are several sensible ways to get from Victoria to Heathrow: the National Express coach from Victoria Coach Station, the Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express via Paddington, the Piccadilly line via Green Park or Hammersmith, and a private car. Journey times range from about 35 to 75 minutes, so your choice should turn on luggage, budget and how much changing you can face. This guide compares each route and covers the recent change to National Express stops at Heathrow.
Victoria is both a railway station and a Tube station, and Victoria Coach Station is a separate building a short walk away. Make sure you know which one you need before you set out, because it is one of the most common mistakes on this route.

Which Victoria do you need
Victoria railway station and the Victoria Underground station are together, in the middle of the district. Victoria Coach Station is a few minutes' walk away on Buckingham Palace Road. If you are taking the coach, go to the Coach Station. If you are taking a train or Tube, go to the main station. Getting this wrong with a suitcase can cost you ten minutes or more.
Victoria Coach Station to Heathrow
The National Express coach runs direct from Victoria Coach Station to Heathrow, and it is the simplest public option if you have bags and want to avoid changes.
Where the coach leaves and where it stops at Heathrow
Victoria Coach Station is on Buckingham Palace Road, about a five-minute walk from Victoria railway and Tube station. At Heathrow, the coach stops at Terminals 2 and 3 (Heathrow Central bus station), Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. One notice in October 2026 said that from 16 October, Victoria services use new stops numbered 1 to 4 on Consort Road, behind Heathrow Central bus station. Confirm this with National Express before you travel, and follow the signs at arrivals.
Fares, luggage and journey time
The journey takes 40 to 70 minutes depending on traffic, with the usual range around 65 to 70 minutes at busy times. Advance fares start from under £10 and rise on the day. Each passenger can usually bring a large case plus hand luggage, and excess luggage may be charged at around £8. The coach is exposed to traffic on the A4 and M4, so allow a margin before a flight. For more coach options, see our coach to Heathrow guide.
Is the coach right for you
The coach suits you if you are travelling alone or as a couple, have standard luggage and are comfortable with an hour-long ride. It is less suited to a very tight connection or a late-night arrival, because coaches run less often and a delay on the road can last. If you are in doubt, leave earlier than the timetable suggests.
Victoria train and Tube station to Heathrow
Victoria has no direct train or Tube to Heathrow, but several rail routes work well.
Via Paddington (Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express)
Take the Circle line from Victoria to Paddington, which takes about 15 minutes. At Paddington, board the Elizabeth Line (about 30 minutes to Terminals 2 and 3) or the Heathrow Express (15 minutes). The total is about 35 to 60 minutes. This is the fastest rail option, but you carry bags through two stations. Our guide to Paddington to Heathrow explains the second leg in detail.
Via Green Park or Hammersmith (to the Piccadilly line)
There are two ways to join the Piccadilly line from Victoria. The first is the Victoria line one stop to Green Park, where you change to the Piccadilly line for Heathrow, which serves Terminals 2 and 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. The second is the District line to Hammersmith, then the Piccadilly line. The total takes 60 to 75 minutes and costs the least, at about the price of a single Tube fare. Both involve a change with stairs, so they suit light travellers.
Which rail route to pick
If you need to get to the airport fast and are prepared to pay for it, Paddington and the Heathrow Express is the quickest. If you prefer value and a through service, use the Elizabeth Line from Paddington. If you are watching every pound and have one small bag, the Piccadilly line works, but it is the slowest. In all cases, check TfL's service updates before you leave, as closures are common at weekends.
Private transfer from Victoria to Heathrow
A pre-booked car collects you from your Victoria hotel or address and takes you direct to your terminal, in about 40 to 60 minutes. Fixed prices usually run from about £50 to £150 depending on the vehicle and provider, with an average journey of around 41 minutes in one operator's data. A car is best with heavy luggage, children, early flights, or a late arrival when public transport thins out. See our Heathrow airport transfer page for how to book.
Why Victoria suits a car
Victoria is a major hub for visitors. Many hotels around Belgravia, Pimlico and Westminster are within a short ride of the station, and a car can collect you from the door, avoiding the walk to the Tube, the lifts and the stairs. At the other end, a driver can drop you at the right terminal. For a traveller with two large cases, that is easily the lowest-effort way to start a trip.
Heathrow to Victoria (the reverse trip)
From Heathrow, take the coach from the stops on Consort Road (check the stop number), the Elizabeth Line or Express to Paddington then the Circle line, or the Piccadilly line to Green Park and the Victoria line to Victoria. A car takes you straight to your hotel door. For a wider look at routes into town, read our guide to Heathrow to central London.
What to expect on arrival
A coach arriving at Victoria Coach Station drops you a short walk from the railway and Underground station, which helps if you are changing to a train. If you arrive by rail, you will have to find your way out of a busy station with luggage. After a long flight, many visitors find the car the less tiring way to reach a Victoria hotel.
Luggage and accessibility tips
Victoria station has long walks and several levels, and the Underground platforms have steps at some stations. Check TfL's step-free map before you go, and allow extra time with heavy luggage. The Elizabeth Line has step-free access at Paddington, which makes that route easier with wheelchairs and pushchairs. The coach has space for large cases, but boarding takes time at busy periods.
A pre-booked car with a driver who helps with bags is the easiest way to avoid steps. If you have mobility needs, tell the provider when you book so the right vehicle is sent.
