Santander's airport answered a flat 2025 with double-digit growth and its widest map yet — twenty-nine destinations in ten countries this summer, from the Canaries to Sofia. The field sits five kilometres from the city, one of Spain's shortest airport-to-town runs, with green Cantabria fanning out behind. One fixed price, flight tracked, the bay door to door.
Honest pages say it plainly: 2025 was Santander's breather — 1,069,390 passengers, down 2.4 per cent, the international side thinning while domestic routes grew. Then 2026 answered. Traffic has run at double-digit growth since January, around 600,000 passengers crossed the terminal by the half-year, and the summer map was the widest the airport has flown: twenty-nine destinations in ten countries, per Aena — six of them new, from Lanzarote and Menorca to Sofia, Tirana and Paris-Orly. Ryanair fans out to nine cities — London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Dublin, Venice, Bologna, Brussels, Marrakech — Wizz Air threads the east, Binter keeps a daily Canaries link, and Volotea and Vueling stitch the Spanish coast. A dip told straight, and a rebound you can count.
The name on the terminal is a local's name: Seve Ballesteros grew up in Pedreña, directly across the bay — the golfer who learned the game on these shores gave the airport its name, and his home course still looks at the city over the water. The field itself sits in Camargo on the bay's south shore, five kilometres from the centre: one of Spain's shortest airport-to-town runs, ten minutes on an ordinary morning to the Centro Botín's lifted glass, the Palacio de la Magdalena on its headland and El Sardinero's long sand.
Behind the city, Cantabria fans out and the fixed price covers the fan. Santillana del Mar and the Altamira museum are half an hour; Comillas keeps Gaudí's El Capricho; Cabárceno's wildlife park swallows a family day twenty minutes out; and the far point is the Picos de Europa — Potes and the Fuente Dé cable car, about an hour and three-quarters — which we run far point first with the return margin kept. Bilbao and its airport are an hour east, and our Bilbao Airport page carries that field for days when the schedules disagree; we price the cross-border run fixed in both directions.
And the water earns a forward look: Santander is one of Spain's few cities where ferries from Britain and cruise calls land at the city centre itself — our Port of Santander page carries that side, with flight and ship tracked together. A rebound year, met properly at arrivals.
About 5 km — ten minutes on an ordinary morning, one of Spain's shortest airport-to-town runs. Santillana del Mar ~30–35 minutes, Bilbao ~1 hour.
Whichever the schedules favour: they're an hour apart and we drive both daily at fixed prices — our Bilbao Airport page covers that field.
Ryanair's nine-city fan (London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Dublin, Venice, Bologna, Brussels, Marrakech), Wizz Air east to Sofia, Tirana and Bucharest, Binter's daily Canaries link, Volotea and Vueling on the Spanish coast, plus the Madrid and Barcelona links — per Aena's summer map.
We track it. The pickup adjusts automatically and the driver meets the new time at no extra charge — Cantabrian drizzle included.
For the golf great, who grew up in Pedreña directly across the bay. The name is a local's name.
Yes — ferries from Britain and cruise calls land at the city centre, and our Port of Santander page carries that side, flight and ship tracked together.
Daily — Potes and Fuente Dé are about 1h45, the region's far point, run far point first with the return margin kept.
