"Milan" is written on three airports, and Malpensa is the distant one — some 49 km northwest, with the Malpensa Express as its honest spine: four trains an hour to Cadorna in 37 minutes, serving both terminals. The small print: the line sleeps from half past midnight to five, Centrale takes nearer 51 minutes, and the station is still not your hotel. For night arrivals, Lakes-bound luggage and anyone who booked "Milan" without checking which airport, a fixed-price car is the honest answer.
Start with the problem Milan built for itself: three airports answer to its name. Malpensa — MXP — is the intercontinental gateway, 49-odd kilometres northwest near the Ticino; Linate is the little city airport tucked against the eastern boulevards; and Bergamo's Orio al Serio, beloved of low-cost carriers, lies fifty kilometres east wearing "Milan" only on the ticket. Book a morning departure from the wrong one and no car can save the arithmetic — so the first habit is checking the code, both directions. This page is Malpensa's, and Malpensa's own geography has a consolation the other two lack: the Lakes begin practically at its fence.
The Malpensa Express deserves its billing and gets it. Four trains an hour link the airport with Milano Cadorna in about 37 minutes and Centrale in about 51 — and, usefully, the line serves both terminals, calling at T2 before T1, so even budget arrivals need no shuttle to reach a platform. For one traveler with one bag it is excellent, and we say so. The caveats are the usual Italian pair: the service sleeps from roughly half past midnight until five, precisely the window where long-haul arrivals and dawn departures live; and the train's destination is a station, while yours is a doorway — in Milan's taxi system that last leg is covered by an official fixed rate to the centre rather than a meter, a fair rule that a pre-booked car simply makes unconditional, at any hour, from either terminal.
Where the car wins outright is the direction most Malpensa passengers are secretly headed: the water. Lake Maggiore's southern shore is on the airport's doorstep — Stresa well under an hour — and Lake Como's silk towns are about an hour east, which makes MXP, not the city, the natural gateway to the Lakes. By rail those journeys mean a backtrack into Milan and out again; by car they are a single curve north with the luggage never touched. The same radial logic serves the fashion fairs of Rho, the business towers of Porta Nuova, and, in winter, the first hairpins of the Alps.
And Milan itself rewards the 49 km properly done: the Duomo's marble forest, the fashion quadrilatero, an aperitivo along the Navigli at the hour the canals turn gold. One fixed price, one car, tracked from touchdown at either terminal — and the only three-airport puzzle left is the one we already solved before you flew.
About 49 km northwest. The Malpensa Express reaches Cadorna in about 37 minutes and Centrale in about 51; by road allow 50–70 minutes depending on traffic.
That's Malpensa's best trick: Maggiore is on its doorstep and Como about an hour — direct by car, a backtrack through Milan by rail. We run lake transfers door to dock.
Yes and yes — four trains an hour, and the line calls at T2 before T1, so no shuttle is needed to reach a platform. It sleeps from roughly 00:30 to 05:00, which is where a booked car takes over.
We track your arrival and adjust the pickup automatically. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, at T1 or T2 as your flight requires.
Check the code: MXP is the long-haul gateway northwest, LIN the small city airport, BGY the low-cost field 50 km east. They are not interchangeable — confirm both directions before planning a thing.
T1 hosts most full-service and long-haul flights; T2 is the low-cost base. Allocations shift, so check your boarding pass — your driver is told your terminal along with your flight.
The Express stops around half past midnight and resumes at five; Milan's fixed-rate taxi covers the night at the rank, but a pre-booked car tracked your delay, knows your terminal and fixed its price before you flew.
