MSP serves two cities and runs two terminals — and the terminals are the first trap: Lindbergh and Humphrey are separate buildings across the airfield, linked by rail, not by a walk. The Blue Line is honest — 25 minutes downtown, 12 to the Mall of America — but a January platform at minus twenty is no place for a family with luggage. A booked car, flight tracked and warm at the kerb, is how the North starts comfortably — whichever terminal, whichever twin.
Minneapolis–Saint Paul plays a small trick on the unprepared: it is one airport with two terminals that behave like strangers. Terminal 1 — Lindbergh — is the big one, Delta's fortress hub and home to most airlines; Terminal 2 — Humphrey — hosts Sun Country, Southwest and a handful of others, in a separate building across the airfield. There is no walking between them: a free rail link does the honours, and the traveler who books "MSP" without checking the terminal can donate half an hour to the discovery. We ask your airline before you land, and the driver is at the right door.
The public option earns its credit, as it usually does on these pages: the METRO Blue Line stops at both terminals and reaches downtown Minneapolis in about 25 minutes, every quarter-hour at peak, from roughly 3:30 am to midnight — and the Mall of America, America's largest, is just 12 minutes the other way. Then Minnesota files its seasonal footnote, and it is the exact inverse of our Phoenix page: here the enemy is cold. A January platform runs at minus twenty, the wind makes arithmetic of exposed skin, and hauling suitcases through it is a test nobody booked. From November to March, the warm car at the kerb is not a luxury; it is the plan.
The geography is kinder than the climate. The airport sits between its two namesakes — downtown Minneapolis about 16 km northwest, Saint Paul, the quieter capital twin, 15 to 20 minutes northeast — and the driver who knows both saves you from treating them as one city, which they politely refuse to be. Beyond the twins, one run matters more than any other in the region: the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, about an hour and a half south. We drive it daily in both directions — appointments met with margin, returns timed to discharge rather than optimism, and the quiet in the car respected when that is what the day needs.
Delta's hub brings the last audience: connectors who misconnect. When the inbound is late and the onward is gone, MSP becomes an unplanned overnight — and a tracked transfer that shifts with the rebooking, at a price fixed before the trip began, is the difference between a bad evening and a managed one. One fixed price, one car, and the North handled by someone who plugs the block heater in at home.
Downtown Minneapolis is about 16 km — 20 minutes or so by road; Saint Paul 15–20 minutes the other way. The airport sits between its two cities.
Yes — one of our most-driven MSP routes, about an hour and a half. Appointment times are met with margin, and return pickups flex with your schedule.

Honest and cheap: about 25 minutes downtown and 12 to the Mall of America, every 15 minutes at peak, roughly 3:30 am to midnight. In deep winter, the platforms are the catch.
It's 12 minutes from the airport — the largest mall in America, with an aquarium and a theme park inside. On a long layover we can run you there and back, timed to your onward flight.
