In the spring of 2026, A Coruña's airport got the audition most small airports never do: Santiago's runway closed for renewal from late April to late May, and for thirty-five days Alvedro ran Galicia's show — six destinations became eleven, scheduled operations rose by about seventy per cent, London-Heathrow and Paris-Orly flew daily, and the busiest days moved close to eight thousand passengers through a terminal that had grown two new gates and seven hundred parking spaces for the part. The airport passed; we drove it daily and watched it pass.
The encore is this winter's map. The city went out in August to secure five domestic routes it calls strategic, and the published winter schedule answers with the same five cities on Volotea — Bilbao, Málaga and Valencia from early November, Seville right behind, Alicante from early December — layered over the base that was already a record: 1,292,166 passengers in 2025, up 4.4 per cent, with Madrid the artery at around three-quarters of a million a year, Barcelona filling more than nine seats in ten, and easyJet's Geneva and Milan keeping an international pair on the board. For the region's widest long-haul map, Santiago — our Santiago Airport page carries it — remains the honest answer, an hour down the motorway.
What Alvedro holds over every rival is the kerb: the field sits in Culleredo, seven kilometres from the city centre — the shortest airport-to-town run in Galicia, fifteen minutes on an ordinary morning. That puts the glass galleries of the Marina, María Pita square and the Tower of Hercules — the world's oldest working Roman lighthouse, UNESCO-listed on its Atlantic headland — closer to arrivals than most cities' ring roads, and it makes the morning meeting in Arteixo's headquarters belt a short, predictable hop. Far point first when the day runs down the Costa da Morte to Fisterra; return margin kept, one fixed price for the whole car.
And the water earns a forward look: A Coruña's cruise quay lands passengers at the city centre itself — our Port of A Coruña page carries that side, with flight and ship tracked together on fly-cruise days. An airport that proved it can play the bigger part, met properly at arrivals.
Yes — the quay is at the city centre, and our Port of A Coruña page carries that side, flight and ship tracked together.
About 7 km — roughly fifteen minutes, the shortest airport-to-town run in Galicia. Santiago is ~45 minutes, Ferrol ~40.
We track it. The pickup adjusts automatically and the driver meets the new time at no extra charge — Atlantic weather included.
Madrid on Iberia and Air Europa (the artery), Vueling's Barcelona, easyJet's Geneva and Milan, Binter to the Canaries — and this winter Volotea's five returning cities: Bilbao, Málaga, Valencia, Seville and Alicante, per the published schedule.
Daily — the headquarters belt is a short, predictable hop from both the airport and the city, one fixed price each way.
Alvedro is closest to the city; Santiago carries the wider international map, an hour away — our Santiago Airport page covers it. We drive both daily and price both runs fixed.
Daily — Santiago in ~45 minutes, and the Costa da Morte to Fisterra as a far-point-first fixed-price day.
