The Motor City never laid rail to its airport — of course it didn't — so every arrival at Detroit Metro ends in a vehicle, and the only question is whose. The buses are honest and slow; the terminal trap is quicker: McNamara belongs to Delta and its partners, Evans to everyone else, and they sit apart with a shuttle between. Add roadworks trimming the terminal loop until 2027, and a booked car with your airline checked and your flight tracked is simply the clean way into Michigan.
Detroit Metro opens with a question most passengers don't know they've been asked: which airport did you land at? McNamara — a mile-long Delta fortress with 121 gates, a free ExpressTram running the length of Concourse A and a 700-foot tunnel of shifting light between its concourses — hosts Delta and its SkyTeam partners, Air France and Aeromexico among them. Evans Terminal, the former North, hosts everyone else: American, United, Southwest, JetBlue, Alaska, on a single concourse. The two are separate buildings with no airside link; a free shuttle does the rounds every ten minutes, and the ride plus re-screening makes thirty minutes the honest budget. We settle the question before you land — your driver is at the right terminal because we checked your airline, not your assumption.
The city is 35 kilometres northeast, 25 to 40 minutes up I-94 — and here Detroit confesses its character: the city that put the world on wheels never built a train to its airport. The express bus makes downtown in about three-quarters of an hour and the local route in about an hour, and we credit both as what they are — honest, cheap and slow, with a stop that is still not your hotel. In the Motor City the road is not a compromise; it is the native tongue, and a booked car speaks it door to door.
The year 2026 adds two local footnotes worth money. John Dingell Drive — the loop road threading the terminals — is under rehabilitation through 2027, lanes trimmed and traffic squeezed precisely where every pickup and drop-off must pass; and Evans Terminal is renovating its dining floors on the same calendar. Neither ruins a journey; both punish thin margins. We build the extra minutes in, and the price was fixed when you booked, roadworks or none.
Where do DTW journeys end? Downtown's riverfront towers, with Windsor's skyline across the water; Dearborn fifteen minutes out, where Ford's museum holds the century the city built; and Ann Arbor, half an hour west, with its university and hospital drawing visitors year-round — our most-asked DTW run after downtown itself. Winter files the usual Michigan clause — lake-effect snow answers to no schedule — and the Delta hub files its own: when a connection breaks, a tracked car that moves with your rebooking turns a bad evening into a managed one. One fixed price, one car, and the Motor City entered the way it was always meant to be — by road, properly driven.
About 35 km southwest, in Romulus: 25–40 minutes up I-94 depending on traffic. Dearborn is closer, about 15 minutes; Ann Arbor is 25–35 minutes west.
A free shuttle runs about every 10 minutes; with the ride and re-screening, allow at least 30 minutes. Booked transfers between terminals are also something we handle, bags and all.
McNamara for Delta and SkyTeam partners (Air France, Aeromexico, WestJet); Evans for everyone else — American, United, Southwest, JetBlue, Alaska. They're separate buildings; we check your airline and send the driver to the right one.
We track your arrival and adjust the pickup automatically. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board at no extra charge.
No — Detroit has no airport rail. Express and local buses reach downtown in roughly 45 minutes to an hour; honest, but a bus stop is still not your hotel. The road is the plan here.
Yes — about half an hour west on I-94, and one of our most common DTW runs: the university, the hospital and game-day weekends all meet a fixed price and a tracked flight.
The terminal loop road is under rehabilitation through 2027, with lanes reduced exactly where pickups happen, and Evans Terminal is renovating its dining areas. We build the margin in.
