Austin's airport just rewrote its own map: the South Terminal closed for good in March 2026, its airlines moved under the main roof, and the demolition crews moved in behind them. What remains is simple — one terminal, fifteen minutes from downtown, no rail link, and a city whose festival calendar can double an airport's crowd overnight. A booked car with your flight tracked and the week's layout known is how Austin stays easy, even in SXSW week.
Austin's airport spent a decade as a boomtown improvising, and 2026 is the year it consolidated: on the last day of March the little South Terminal — the walk-across-the-tarmac annex that budget flyers knew — closed for good, and on the first of April Allegiant and Frontier joined everyone else inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal. Every departure now leaves from one roof: thirty-four gates along a single east–west concourse, East through West, with Southwest alone carrying some forty percent of the passengers. The practical warning writes itself — old habits still steer people toward a building that is being demolished for new taxiways. If your last Austin flight was a Frontier one, your memory is out of date, and ours is not.
Inside, the rebuilding continues at the passenger's pace: a new Checkpoint 4 opened in February 2026 while Checkpoint 3 has been walled off since 2024, so the security funnels shift with the season, and the Journey With AUS program will keep pouring concrete through the decade — an interim concourse around 2027, a far larger one planned beyond. None of this changes the geography: downtown Austin is thirteen kilometres northwest, fifteen to twenty-five minutes on an ordinary day. There is no rail — the city's plans remain plans, and our rule holds: we don't plan around promises. The Route 20 bus makes downtown in a worthy thirty-five minutes; a bus stop, as ever, is not your hotel.
What makes Austin's transfer market unlike its size is the calendar. This is a city where the whole world lands in the same week: South by Southwest in March, Austin City Limits over two October weekends, Formula 1 at the Circuit of the Americas — the track sits barely fifteen minutes east of the runway — and a football Saturday that fills every lane downtown. In those weeks the arrivals hall doubles, the rideshare lot becomes a study in patience, and the fixed price you booked a month ago is the only number that didn't move. We staff the surges because we schedule them like everyone else schedules the shows.
Beyond the city, the Hill Country unrolls west — wedding venues, wineries and lake houses within the hour — and San Antonio sits ninety minutes south for the far-point travelers. One fixed price, one car, child seats fitted, a guitar in the boot if that's the kind of trip it is. Austin keeps itself weird; we keep it punctual.
About 13 km southeast: 15–25 minutes on a normal day, more during festivals and game days. The Domain and north Austin run 30–40 minutes.
About 15 minutes east of the airport — the shortest big-event run in the country. On race weekends we time arrivals and track sessions together.
It closed permanently on March 31, 2026; Allegiant and Frontier now fly from the main Barbara Jordan Terminal. The old building is being demolished for new taxiways — don't let an old booking habit send you there.
We track your arrival and adjust the pickup automatically. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board at no extra charge.
No — Austin has no airport rail, and the proposed link is still a study. The Route 20 bus reaches downtown in about 35 minutes, honest and cheap, with the usual limit: the stop is not your door.
Yes — wineries, wedding venues and the lakes run within the hour, San Antonio about ninety minutes. One fixed price, planned far-point-first.
