Lanzarote's airport carries the name of the artist who designed the island, and it works at an artist's pace all year: seven-million-plus passengers, no off-season. Two terminals share the field — the main hall and the old Guacimeta building, where the inter-island hops leave — so we confirm yours before a wheel turns. Puerto del Carmen is ten minutes, Playa Blanca half an hour: one fixed price, flight tracked, the volcano views free.
Lanzarote's airport was renamed for César Manrique in 2019, on the centenary of his birth, and the choice says everything about the island it serves: the artist's lagoon caves, cliff-top mirador and whitewashed aesthetic are the reason many of its visitors come. They come in numbers that no longer have a low season — the field runs at seven-hundred-to-eight-hundred-thousand passengers a month through 2026, by the operator's own counts — and the route map reads UK-first: Manchester is the busiest international route with Dublin and Gatwick behind, flown by Ryanair, easyJet, TUI and Jet2, which put four hundred and twenty thousand seats into the island this summer alone.
The field has one trap worth a paragraph: two terminals. T1, opened in 1999, carries the international and mainland traffic; T2 is the original Guacimeta building, and the inter-island hops leave from it — and since Gran Canaria is the airport's single busiest route of all, plenty of travellers have a T2 departure without knowing it. We confirm your terminal from the booking before pickup, which is a one-line fix for a wrong-door morning. Growth is coming too, told honestly: Aena has proposed around three hundred and twenty-seven million euros for the airport across 2027–2031 — some one hundred and forty-four million of it for an expansion that would nearly double the terminal spaces, split Schengen and non-Schengen boarding and, in time, join the two terminals while keeping a dedicated inter-island area. It remains a proposal in the approval process, so this page plans around the terminals as they are.
The island's geometry is mercifully small: Arrecife sits five kilometres away, Puerto del Carmen about ten minutes, Costa Teguise twenty, and Playa Blanca — the southern far point — half an hour or so. The public buses do honest work (lines 22 and 23 to Arrecife, 161 and 261 to the resorts) and we say so; with a family's luggage and a check-in time, the door-to-door car replaces the relay with one booking. For the island day, Timanfaya's volcanic park and Manrique's own sites — Jameos del Agua, the Mirador del Río — string into a single fixed-price loop, far point first, return margin kept.
And if your journey is a ship rather than a sunbed: Arrecife's cruise quay is minutes from the runway, and we bridge gangway and gate with flight and ship tracked together. The artist's island, met properly at the door.
Yes — lines 22/23 to Arrecife and 161/261 toward the resorts do honest work for light travellers. With luggage and a check-in time, the door-to-door car wins.
Puerto del Carmen about 10 minutes, Costa Teguise about 20, Playa Blanca 30–35. Arrecife itself is 5 km. One fixed price for the whole car.
We track it. The pickup adjusts automatically and the driver meets the new time at no extra charge.
T1 carries international and mainland flights; T2 — the original Guacimeta building — handles inter-island hops, including the busiest route of all, Gran Canaria. We confirm your terminal from the booking before pickup.
Yes — the volcanic park and Manrique's sites loop into one fixed-price day, far point first with the return margin kept.
Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, TUI, Vueling and Condor lead; Manchester is the top international route, with Dublin and Gatwick behind, and Gran Canaria the busiest overall.
Aena has proposed a major expansion for 2027–2031 — near-doubled spaces, and the two terminals eventually joined — still working through approvals. We plan around the terminals as they are today.
